I have an unusual start/end date on my contract. Rather than the typical March start date to beging the new school year.. my contract started and ends several months later. I'm told this is because my school initially had a hard time finding a foreign teacher Smile

I have no complaints though. They've treated me very well.

However, should they not receive net funding for next year or should I decide to move one elsewhere what would my odds be of finding another gepik gig a little later in hte year?

Not in the rural rice paddies of course.

I'm in the exact same position.

Contract ends April 1

Crossing my fingers for being able to renew at my same school though.

There have been public school mass intakes through April and a bit into May for years now.

There is a rumour that GEPIK will be hiring mainly american females next year. Might make the job hunt a little tougher?

Unless the OP is an American female, in which case she has just hit the money. Anyways I'm a South African male, and I've had multiple offers for next year already, so I wouldn't read much into the "only American female" vibe.

OP. Your school isn't Unique, I know PLENTY of teachers who were either hired mid-semester, or quit mid-semester (thus creating a gap), so there are opportunities abound. In most cases, these positions are pretty last minute, so you have to keep your ear to the ground.

are you using a recruiter? I didn't really use one to get this job... I simply applied for a specific job ad, and it turned out to be this job.

what's the best way to go about finding out what's out there?

if I stay here and change schools, I definitely want to be closer to Seoul, if not in Seoul proper, although considering most posts that I read about SMOE, the idea of working for them doesn't excite me in the slightest.
