Hi all.
I have a friend who is seeking teaching jobs in Korea, either a year-long position at a hagwon, or a short-term position at a summer or winter camp.
The problem is, he has a blot on his record in the state in which he has lived most of his life. (A misdemeanor - under the influence of a controlled substance, marijuana, from 10 or 11 years ago.)
He has a spotless criminal record from a neighboring state, where he lived for several years during and after his college years.
He wants to send the clean record in when he applies for a visa (E2 or C4,) and I don't blame him. It seems unfair to miss out on such a valuable opportunity because of some minor thing that happened so long ago.
However, as I told him, this could look a little suspicious, as he has not lived in the other state for a few years. It seems to me that Korean immigration could find out he was trying to fool them, and that could really come back to bite him hard.
Who knows about this? Does Korean immigration pay close attention to whether the CBC comes from an applicant's state of residence? It seems like there must be a hole in their background check policy, since CBCs from different U.S. states can vary so much, and the Koreans only ask for a check from one state.
I would encourage him to take advantage of the loophole, but to do so may carry an awful price.
Please advise. Thank you all and Happy Thanksgiving! |

Don't expect lots of positive feedback requesting info about how a friend can subvert the CBC. To be honest this is how most of the hurdles get thrown up in front of us. Your friend screwed up and now they have to pay for it. Talk to a lawyer and try to get it legally removed. Other thatn that abide by the laws. |

Hell, I'd be happy with negative feedback. I came here for honest opinions. |

+1
When people start bending rules, Immigration starts making it harder for us to work here. |
