Track down that turkey
http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/
With less than two weeks till American Thanksgiving, it is time to start figuring out how and where to celebrate.
Should one cook at home, order in or head on out to a turkey buffet?
To help you do any or all of the above, here is a guide to getting your turkey raw, roasted or at a restaurant.
Turkey buffets
To enjoy Thanksgiving without slaving for hours in the kitchen, call Suji`s or Toque to make reservations for their annual Thanksgiving turkey buffets.
Located in Itaewon, Suji`s has been serving Thanksgiving turkey for three years. This year, customers can dine on herb turkey, stuffing and gravy, or go for a piquant take on the bird with their southwest spicy turkey, spicy gravy and cornbread sausage stuffing.
Sauteed vegetables, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie round out the meal, along with a complementary glass of wine.
Toque, a quaint diner situated in Hannam-dong, will also be holding their annual Thanksgiving All-U-Can-Eat Turkey Buffet. Complete with turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, the massive spread is sure to satiate even the most ambitious of eaters.
Ordering in
For those who want to celebrate Thanksgiving from the comfort of their home, Toque is also doing take-out turkey.
Customers can either go for half a turkey or a whole one. Gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, creamed string beans and pumpkin pie are included.
Another option is to order from the Westin Chosun Seoul`s Vecchia e Nuovo Deli, which delivers to your house.
The hotel deli sends out a succulent turkey, accompanied by chestnut stuffing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. In addition to their standard fare, they also offer maple glazed sweet potatoes, broccoli with almond butter and Idaho baked potatoes as optional side dishes, as well as a selection of pies.
The old-fashioned way
Thanks to Hannam Supermarket and Costco, it is possible to do turkey the old-fashioned way by roasting it at home.
Hannam Supermarket not only sells the bird, it stocks the fixings too. Croutons, raisins, walnuts, jellied cranberry sauce and turkeys weighing around 6 kilograms are currently available.
According to a representative of the supermarket, plans are underway to bring in smaller turkeys, weighing around 3 to 4 kilograms, and stuffing in a box.
For the ambitious cook who wants a big bird, hit Costco, where turkeys that weigh in at around 8 kilograms can be found.

Has anyone tried Suji's or Toque? I'm looking for an excellent Thanksgiving dinner to treat a friend who has gone way above and beyond for me, so I'd like it to be something really nice. How do they compare with Gecko's Garden or one of the hotels? |

Just came back from Costco, went with a friend. All turkeys are pretty big and cost about 62,000 won. |

Do you have an oven? I don't. Guess I'll just have to buy a canned ham. |

My girlfriend recently bought a reasonably large size toaster oven, big enough for a small turkey at least, for about 90,000 in Yongsan. |

The only way you'll get a turket out there is to go into the woods and kill it yourself. |

Is it bowhunting season yet? I'll try Toque's take out dinner. Hope the food is as appetizing as the menu! |

The Bungalow in Itaewon will also be having a turkey dinner on the Thursday and Friday. I know the woman organizing it and she's planning on it being between 20-30,000 won. Turkey, potatoes, pumpkin pie - they're still planning the menu, but it should be good. |

Are there wild turkeys in Korea? If not one of those big ol' herons might be tasty... |

I heard a rumor that turkeys usually sell out in Korea - is that true? I'd really like to make one for Christmas, but if I can only get them during these two weeks, I'll have to find one for Thanksgiving... |

No, Korea doesn't have wild life like North America. They were joking about it being bow season in North America. If Korea once had wild game, it was all killed off long ago. I heard there's pheasant like those in Kansas, but never seen one. Would you believe tigers and pandas are native in Korea, but extinct today? The only wild life remaining are small birds, insects, and other small animals like chipmunks and a small deer that has 2 extra long teeth instead of antlers. Koreans don't know what a turkey is nor know it's 8 to 10 kilograms in size; they just don't have stuff like that. Same for those large bone in leg hams. |

Excellent thread, thanks wylies.
A true oven is rare in Korea. Now, does anyone have a large deep fryer in Korea? That's the real question. |
