Has anyone done this lately? I need to get something apostillised, so according to the State of ILlinois. I just need to get it notarised and send it to the apostillise and ta-da get it apostillised. http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/index/division.html
Now they say that I need a statement of acknowledgement to confirm the notary that alraedy confirmed the orginal.
SO . . .the apostille confirms the statement of acknowledgement that confirms the notary that confirms the orginal? Are you serious?!
And then my degree which has been signed by four people including someone in the IL govt. maybe the SOS, has to be notarised, again?!
Anyone know about this?

In South Carolina it was pretty much that. For my diploma I had to get a whole new copy (I was too far away to give them my original one) to get it notarized by the school because the school refused to notarize a copy. I think had to send it to the apostilles office.
So...
The apostilles required the diploma to be notarized by the school. The school required the document be an actual document and not a copy of the document.
I'm quite sick of the apostille's office. |

Wait. YOu had to get ANOTHER degree from your uni? See this is just ridiculous. I got my BA degree apositllised three yeras ago, by simply sending it to the APositllie office in IL. NO notary, nothing.
Now, three years later, I also had to get another degree, cost 20 bucks from my uni, since my old one is covered is stamps and signatures from Peru. And now they add all these extra steps!
At least is SC, you don't have to end it to the county clerk after the notary and before the apostille. Please don't tell me that I have to get a notarised copy every time I sign a new contract in Korea? I mean, if I'm in Korea, can I simply show them my orginal? |

Yes, it is ridiculous. What I was able to get away with in New York State was to make a photocopy of my degree, handwrite a declaration on the copy stating "I affirm that this is a true and correct copy of my Bachelor of Arts", sign it, and get the notary to notarize my declaration, which I then had authenticated by the county clerk, and was then in turn apostilled.
It sounds a bit convoluted, but since my degree is from another state, this was much easier than what the NY Secretary of State originally wanted me to do was to have it notarized through my university (which is in another state), which would have meant getting it authenticated in THAT county, and apostilled in that state in addition to getting an apostille for my criminal records check in NY.
I am beginning to wonder if they can think of any way to make this procedure any more aggravating than they already have.
The Canadians have the right idea by not participating in the apostille system altogether, IMHO. |

Peru's not in the Hague agreement either, but it's worse.
I had to get my degree certified by my uni
certified by the county
sent to the Peruvian consulate
Legalised here in Peru by MFA,
translated
have the translation legalised by the college of notaries
have that legalised by MFA
And what's worse is you have to go in person to do everything here in Peru |

In Nebraska, I went to my University, where they photocopied my degree, stamped it with the notary, signed it, then charged my 10 bucks for my troubles. Took it to the Secretary of State's office and had it apostilled. Done and done. That SHOULD be all you need. Notarized and then apostilled.
All the apostille is is an international notary. It says "Yes, this notary is official, and we, as members of the International agreement say so." So whatever you need to do for a notary in your home state is what you need to do to get the apostille. |

Hi There,
I think once you have them done you should be able to keep them. The trouble I am seeing here is that the police check will need to be apostilled every time.
The process is a pain but things change daily so I think in future we will all have to go home to get the apostille. Police checks take two weeks. In Australia they can send you a fingerprint form and police form etc and you can send it in with a money order but the trouble comes then if things are not correct or 100% right on the form. It is possible to get the police to forward it to the apostilles office, then the people from there send it to you at a cost but basically you need people to be nice then pay through the nose for the services.
In my city that Apostille officer wanted to know the people personally (eg. police, university) in order to accept a trusted signature. This is no exaggeration.
With the way these places work I wouldn't be surprised if we are much more restricted. I hope they improve ways of getting checks and things done online. |

I guess the problem is that I'm getting a copy of my degree apostillised and not the actual degree. Guess I'll have to do that next time.
The CBC was easy. In IL, anyone can print out a request and ask for a CBC on anyone. So my mom asked the police for one for about.
About fingerprinting. That's such a pain, I wonder if you alreayd have a record of being fingerprinted, if you have to do it again. My prints are registered with INTERPOL and the CIA. you'd think I could just contact them and have them run a serach.
IN the US, at least in IL, fingerprints aren't neccessary. |
