So, the school or actually the afterschool organization provided my co-teacher with a webcam. She told me they want to "observe" her.
Maybe her English is off, but her classroom is arranged so the class area is nowhere in sight of where the cam is. There is a board and shelving that divide the classroom. So, she has a small area to function as a teacher's area which is where the computer is.
Anyone else have a school this "nosy"? |

Could possibly work both ways particularly if you have some noisy disrespectful students who cause problems. |

I'd prefer having webcams... with a DVR logging everything that goes on in the classroom.
A guy at a hagwon down the street was sent out of here on a rail with a 7 million won fine, incl. legal fees (which he had to beg for, as an alternative to jail time) because some girl's parents sued his hagwon, claiming he "touched" her inappropriately in a class full of 10+ students.
The school actually had video, but the "event" supposedly happened while his hands were under a desk and off camera. That 2 seconds was enough to nearly put him in jail, and DID get him deported.
I didn't get the full truth, but the parents wanted a big settlement.
There's always the chance that he actually did something, but with the economy the way it is, I would rather have a camera to prove my innocence than trust indebted people who see the waygook as an easy target. |

The point is, the webcam is NOT meant for the classroom. It is SPECIFICALLY so they can see her working at her computer.
There is a huge wide bookcase with whiteboard dividing her area at the computer from the actual area she is teaching.
At best they could try to listen in, while staring at all the books in the bookcase.

Personally, I wouldn't be to keen on the idea. Having the webcam in the classroom is one thing, but I was just curious as to why they are doing this to her. |
