Is anyone going to the GEPIK orientation or has anyone gone before? I just got the email where we were told to bring "fun ideas and activities". Do they want us to bring stacks of activites and games with us to present the demo lesson? Just wondering what all goes on. Thanks for any help. |

Could you please share the details of the orientation - when/where is it? Has it been posted to a website? I just checked the GEPIK site and didn't see it, but perhaps they're posting on some other place these days. |

Sure. This was the email I received. I'm not sure if the information was posted any place else.
Hope youre all doing well. Youve probably already heard from your schools that youll be attending a GEPIK Orientation next week. The Elementary Session is from Nov 30th-Dec 2nd (Mon-Wed) and the Middle and High School Session is from Dec 2nd Dec 4th (Wed-Fri). I have attached the Information Package, as well as the 2 night, 3 day schedule. Please let me know if you will NOT be coming by the arranged bus.
Myself and Jaemee (Gimpo District Coordinator), will be your Leaders for the Group Meeting, so Im looking forward to meeting everyone. For the second day you will present a demo lesson to our group. Each pair will have only have about 5-10 minutes to present. I will split you into pairs to make a lesson plan and present it so come with fun ideas and activities. One person will be the Native Teacher and the other person will take the role as the Korean Co-teacher. The rest of us will be active students. This should be played out as realistic as possible. Lets have fun with it!
The bus from Goyang (Ilsan) leaves promptly at 9:10a.m., so be there by 9a.m. If you miss the bus, you will have to find your own transportation to Anseong. Since Jeongbalsan, Exit 1 is being renovated, check both Exit 1 and 2. Im not sure where exactly the bus will be parked, but there will be a GEPIK sign on the front of the bus or look for a bunch of foreigners. =) I will be on the bus that leaves on Monday.
The Orientation will be a great opportunity to meet other GEPIK Teachers and network, take a break from teaching, learn about co-teaching methods, pick up ideas on lesson planning, learn about Korean culture, and more!
See you all next week! By the way, you will be sharing a room with one other participant. |

I don't think that you should go mental...BUT...if you have a few favorite games that you play, and they require anything (like cue cards, or dice) to be played...then you might like to bring them. The whole point is that you show the group your demo with a game or activity, and other people might not have seen your game before, so it gives them something new to use when they teach their classes.
The Orientation itself is a good time. Relax, enjoy the time away from your school, and meet new people who are going through the same stuff that you are. You'll get out what you put in...just like life! Have fun!! |

Thanks very much for posting that. I'm in Gimpo too, but I didn't receive the email, perhaps because I went to orientation with my previous school. |
