hi all,

if any of the forum experts could please advise...

when applying for the F3 spouse visa - does her passport have to be in my surname or can it be in her surname before marriage?

ie - does she have to get her passport changed to show her married surname before she can apply for the F3 visa?

my wife-to-be will is a filipina - so not sure if that makes any difference for the question that i'm asking

thanks for any answers
Smile

Will she legally change her name? She should get her passport changed.

Not sure, but I wouldn't think so as Korean women keep their family name even after marriage. My wife still has her family name.

It could be a problem if she wants to change her name while she is here, but I believe it is possible.

Recently, Korean women can get a passport with (wife of Husband's family name) added to their own name.

As long as you have the documents to prove you are legally married, I don't see why the name thing should be an official barrier.

Agreed. A copy of marriage certificate and her passport will suffice.

My wife is here with me on an F3 visa and there was no issue with her not having the same surname as me. As others have said, the marriage cert and passport are enough.

I applied for an F-3 visa last wednesday in Manila. I brought with me my passport with my new family name (my hubby's surname). I am not sure though if it matters. But for me, there were no much hassle about it. And one thing, you have to tell your wife to bring with her CFO certificate when she applies because they were looking for it when I did mine--- good thing I have!

Is the F-3 a multiple entry visa?

OP - Don't worry. My wife still has her maiden name in her passport. We had no problems and neither will you as long as you have all the proper marriage dicumentation. My wife was also issued a VISA to America with the old passport. You are worried over nothing.
