I'm headed to a new public elementary school job in Gumi, down near Daegu, in mid Decmeber.
Anybody know anything about what's to do around Gumi?

It's not really all that close to Daegu, but there are some decent things, and a really decent crowd of people. Corona is popular, right two blocks from the train station, and there's Waegook Cook where, I can safely say, I've never had a bad meal (can't say that about many of the western restaurants here). Derek can set you straight.
One stop down the train line is Waegwan, you can take a taxi to Carroll and stop by Country Kitchen for a ridiculous amount of American food. Down the hill a bit is Why Not? where you can get a mix of American and Korean fare... But you probably don't want to hate on Country music while you're there.
Next is Daegu, where you can get your fix of the East side. Ask how ot get to the fire station across form the park, all the foreigner dives are there, but for a nice meal, you can hit up the new Holy Grill Restaurant. It's right under the Holy Grill Sports Bar, run by a couple of Canucks who have set me right on multiple occasions.
If you take the train in the other direction (or the 55 local bus), you'll end up in Gimcheon, where I think ther best restaurants in the area are. They're right around the base of Jikjisa. Go nuts. If you want to try a table, literally FULL of korean food, head to Jikjisa templetown, and you'll be in good shape. Head up to the temple too, bring your camera.
It's a decent spot, drop me a PM when you get here, I'll take ya out. You don't pay until you get paid, remember that. |

Sounds great. I'll definately let you know when I get settled in.
I've already ascertained what and where I'll be most of the time. I'm a salsa dancer and Daegu has a lively foreigner salsa scene. Especially the 'casino rueda' style that I'm fond of.
Other than that, I'm open.
I'm hoping I can make friends with some US service personnel there because I've recently signed as a Shaklee distributor. They've got some products I really love but it costs a fortune to send them over here regular mail. If I could find somebody with an APO box, it would save me a lot of money.
And it would be well worth it for me to give them (whosever box it was) something free each month from the catalog too).
Regards,
