I have a student who's sad a lot, but she smiles anyway. So today, I told her about this song, and it really amused her.
I'm a good teacher and role model, right?
How do you cheer kids up? |

My friend told me the other day he asked his students what they wanted for Xmas.
A boy answered he wanted to grow up soon.
My friend further asked why it was like that. The boy said he wanted to grow up so that he didn't have to study and take tests any more.
After saying so, he started crying...
Good teacher, how would you cheer him up? |

How old was the kid? Maybe he's almost grown up and you could put it into perspective. Then you could sing, "Smile... though your heart is breaking." If he doesn't humour you with a little smile, print out the lyrics and the next class with him, give them out and tell them there will be a comprehension quiz.
I guess you can't always cheer them up. I don't think I really cheered up that student today, but she cheered me up a little. I wish I could help her more. I was miserable at her age, too. |

It's amazing how Koreans can do this. I had a friend of mine, who I knew in High School and thought she was the happiest person in the world, tell me that she had hated her parents, especially mom, back then and thought of Sucide and Murdering them. She also told me she was adopted (Korean to Korean). I'm adopted too and she never felt comfortable revealing that until last Sunday.
Fortunately she is much more at peace with herself and them. In fact she kinda feels silly that she made things out to be so dramatic. She was adopted from to her uncle from her natural family, so now she understands why they were a little strict- they'd have felt awful if she "turned out bad".
When we age we realize a lot of things.
Still it was absolutely stunning and the thread title made me think of her. Everyone who knows her thinks she is an sbolute sweety.
Of course lots of us adoptees are like that- Always eager to please. |

Thank you Maybe I should remind the kids that without America, there'd be no G Dragon (no pop music, I guess). Also, they'd probably have starved to death in some unspeakably fascist regime.
But without Canada, there'd be no Kaypea teacher |

You got to keep on rockin man. Keep on rockin in the free world. The world America made free for all of us. God bless America at Christmas time, and raise a glass to good Americans everywhere.
Ok, maybe I am a little drunk right now, but I love my fellow country people -- my Americans. Whatever some of those might say about America -- we keep the world a free, good place to be. Without America, democracy and freedom wouldn't mean nothing dude.
Don't let no one tell you different.
We rock ! |
Yes, dude, we rock. Everyone knows it or is drowning in that river in Egypt.
Still, this grandstanding is getting old. Rub a little stoicism on that. |

Reese my man, I know, it's the Jack Daniels talking ! Christmas and all, and, truth be told, I guess I am lettin off some steam after having to mix with too many Brits at work! |
Blowing off steam is good for the soul. But what's wrong with the British? They like a good time. They make pretty good food and damn fine ale. They have a great collective sense of humor. They turned out some fabulous literature over the centuries. Heck, after some orthodontic efforts, some of their women are actually pretty good looking. What's not to like? |
