Hi!

I'm a recent graduate (B.A. Geography) and have had several years of experience in educating and mentoring young kids in sales, for what it is worth.

It would be of great help for me to know what sort of salary I should demand from a private school (not in Seoul/Busan)...the terms of the contract are as follows...

airfare and accommodation provided
50% health coverage
severance pay
10 days vacation + holidays
30 hours/week (I assume it'll end up being 35-40)

I have heard as low as 2,000,000W and as high as 2,700,000W.

ANOTHER THING...

I have heard many reports of contracts being renegotiated once the teacher arrives in Korea, often for the benefit of the school. I would like to avoid this at all costs. A contract is a contact.

Any answers and comments are appreciated! Thanks!

If you have no experience in Korea you can expect between 2.1 and 2.3 million. Any more than that is extremely generous. Koreans don't really care if you have experience elsewhere, especially if it isn't really related to teaching English.

You might want to make sure that your contract includes national pension contributions as well. Many employers try to screw you out of it, even though it is mandatory by law that they pay into it. It's a good deal for you because you pay 4.5 per cent of your monthly salary, your boss matches it and then you get the entire amount back from the pension office in a lump sum refund when you leave the country. It's a great savings plan.
