A North Korean army sergeant who drifted into South Korean waters in a small boat will be sent back to his country, the UN Command in Korea said Tuesday.

The North Korean was rescued at sea off the west coast of the peninsula over the weekend, and has been cleared of spying, according to a South Korea Defence Ministry official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The sergeant has apparently told investigators he was fishing when his boat drifted into South Korean waters.

During questioning, he said he wanted to go back to his home country.

The UN Command, which oversees the armistice that has been in place since the end of the Korean War in 1953, said the North Korean will be repatriated Wednesday from the border village of Panmunjom.

The area where the North Korean was picked up is a rich fishing region, but the border is disputed.

Last month, naval ships from the two Koreas engaged in a brief skirmish. The South Korean military claims that one North Korean sailor and three others were wounded in the exchange of fire.

What do you think that chances are that the N. Korean sergeant will be sent to a labor camp upon his return?
