Does anyone live around this area? Whats it like? Decent amenities? Easy to find good accommodation? Where are the closest big stores?

Do you like living there?

You'd be very close to Yongsan Station, which houses a huge shopping center, electronics market, transportation hub, CGV IMAX theater, and an E-Mart,which is the equivalent of a Wal-Mart superstore.

Seoul Station, Itaewon, Myung-dong, Jongno, Sinchon, Hongdae are all close. You'd have access to line subway line 6 and 4, which making getting around Seoul fairly easy.

It's a very, very solid place to live, but a bit pricey. If your school is helping you out with deposit money you might find reasonable rent, and if your other job conditions are good I'd say go for it.

I got lost in that area on my scooter once, a very pleasant and well located part of Seoul.

The actual park is quite nice.

I just spent a year living basically at sookdae station.

Like seoulsucker said, it's very centrally located - walking distance or a 5,000 won taxi to Hongdae, Itaewon, and Jongno. The best way to get out of Seoul (to avoid traffic), unless your headed to Gangwondo, is by train and you would be right at the 2 main train stations - Yongsan and Seoul station.

Hyochang park is nice, especially at night.

If your a girl, there's lots of girly stores at Sookdae. If your a guy, there's lots of girls at Sookdae. They also had a free, once a week, Korean lesson last year.

My apartment was 600,000 a month including fees (not utilities). It was noisy and bright at night but new and only 1 block from the subway.

There are restaurants, some 24 hours, nearby. The best boba place in Seoul is there too. There is a super chill locals bar called makeoli (my own choice of spelling there) that only serves various homemade makeoli and traditional snacks. The owner is in his 20's and plays bossanova and jazz. It's in a small street - go east of sookdae station, there is only one street before you get to the street with the wall of yongsan military base - if you see this you've gone too far, turn right (south) and it is immediately on your left. Bring a friend.

There are 3 gyms on the main drag between Sookdaeyuk (station) and Namyeong yuk - there are probably other ones but those were the closest to my place. Gyms in Korea , as far as I can tell, aren't so great. The nicest gym I came across, in a tall fancy building on Jongno, paled in comparison to my community center stateside and cost 200,000 a month! I went to one place for a while that was 60,000 a month but was 2 floors underground, smelled like crap, cramped, missing basic things, and I broke the only elliptical machine after about 2 minutes (they didn't seem to notice - probably no one ever used it). The gym I was at near sookdae was 130,000 for 3 months - it was tiny, crowded, and wholly inadequate. good luck

walking around namsan (a hill with a tower) is nice.

I don't know if there are parts of Korea that are more or less foreigner friendly - I wouldn't worry about it.

Judging by your sign-up date, you've been in Korea for at least 5 years, so you must speak Korean pretty darn well and be used to the culture by now. What does it matter if a place is specifically "foreigner-friendly"?

In any case, my girlfriend lived there for 2 years, and she and I always had a nice enough time staying in the neighborhood. And since there aren't too many foreigners around, people don't even try to speak English to you (for the most part), which is nice.

because im curious...it doesnt 'matter' as such but i like to research an area before moving there. the language aspect you just mentioned is one particular reason for my curiosity.
