How long does it take to burn one 연탄? How much do they cost?

Is it practical to buy one of these things to burn sometimes:

Or are these not for indoors?

I've heard some places won't allow space heaters after an incident a few years back. Just hearsay though, so it should not preclude further inquiry

They're those charcoal cylinders with the holes in them.

They're cheap because it's what the poorest of the poor in Korea use to keep their homes warm. They're subsidized by the government to keep the price low.

You need to ventilate well though if you decide to use them, unless you want to kill yourself. In the process of setting up a chimney from whatever stove you're using to burn it in, you'll probably 'deinsulate' your apartment by having to have the window open to run the chimney out of. Also, it'll make your home look pretty ghetto.

Sometimes people commit suicide in their car's by burning these and sitting inside with the windows and doors closed. Easier to set up than running a hose from the exhaust.. or maybe they're saving on gas haha.

That furnace that you saw is for a country house ,
or for a store on the first floor ,only.

That stove , or furnace , also must be ventilated.

For a thirty pyung place you would need about
120~150 yeon tans a month . ( 1 yeon tan = 500won )

It is really warm though .
