I've heard you can just take the money and run. Just go to the pension office with your ticket home, and I *think* that is enough. Just try it, see if they let you do it, can't hurt, right?
The last time I left, though, I was on an E-2 and got the pension refund, but when I came back, at least I didn't get any hassle about it. Not that that really answers your question, though, just some ancillary helpful info. |

I don't know where you come from.... but I have several passports, one of them is from Hong Kong.
A few years ago, I switched jobs and went from a public pension to a private one.
One day, I got a call from the pension office, telling me that they had a few million won to give me. I was pretty surprised. They told me to make sure I brought my HK passport because then they could just give me the money right away without having to wait until I leave the country.
I was already on the F5 by then, though (got it since 2006).. so I am not sure that played a role.
But I have a feeling that this has more to do with the kind of pension you are on, and the country you are from, than what visa you're on.
Good luck. |

I'm pretty sure that if you have your wife call the local pension office, they can set you straight. Just tell them you're leaving the country and would like to cash in your pension... no need to mention your visa type unless they ask. They should just want to see an airline ticket, I think without a return portion? But again, that is just what I *think* I remember. It was a LONG time ago that I last did this. |
