I like my flat. It is really cheap and very quiet. The landlord is nice, but quite old; about 75. Anywat, been there a few years and it is cozy, but have had constant problems with the boiler. The engineers from the gas company have been there a few times and re-wired it the last time. It was working until the yellow light began flashing. That means it needs bled and it will be alright again. I have no idea where to bleed it and would no know which one is mine. I don't want to snoop around. I brought the landlord into my flat and showed him the blinking yellow light and he mentioned the enginneer returning. I said no and tried to explain that all would be well if it was bled, but my Korean is not so advanced and he speaks no English. I think I will need to ask him to get the engineer back to bleed the thing. The other alternative is to move, but I doubt I would find a place that is as quiet and cozy for the price I am paying. I only pay 350 a month.

Take a picture of your boiler and we will tell you how to bleed it.

Well for one, ice water is actually good for your hair and skin. I usually take a hot shower and rinse ice cold. It's supposed to make the pores smaller, thus not allowing as much oil and dirt to get in the skin and scalp.

Second, bleeding the boiler is easy. I used to do it all the time at my last apartment and once or twice in my new one. Here's what you do...

- Go to the room on your floor with all the boilers in it. This usually looks like a storage closet, with giant metal boxes on the walls and all kinds of tubes and pipes going in and out of them.

- Next, look on the boxes. Usually they are marked with the apartment numbers on them (i.e. 101호, 102호, 103호,104호,...)

- Now, under the boxes, or coming out of the bottom will be a few screw like knobs. Simply twisting these open (lefty loosey, righty tighty) will open the valve and you should hear the air coming out.

- Leave the valve open until you see water coming out of it. That means all the air has been bled and the water will now be hotter than ever before.

You may have to fiddle with the knobs and valves on the box. Not all boilers are built the same and some you have to screw open the valve, others the valve is already open. Shouldn't be that hard. Trial and error usually works best.

Best of luck!

It's not so bad for you, actually it's better for your health to use cold water. I use ice cold water, especially in the winter time. Cold water gets your blood moving faster. If you go outside right after you take an ice cold bath, you will live longer. Very Happy

Harry Houdini bathed in ice water. He's dead...

Possibly Houdinis most famous feat was his jump from the Belle Isle Bridge into the Detroit River. On November 27, 1906 Harry Houdini, after being locked into two sets of handcuffs, jumped off the bridge and into a hole that had been cut in the ice.

Houdinis assistants knew that he couldnt hold his breath for more than three and a half minutes. After about three minutes, they realized that the current had carried him downstream. The emergency plan was to have a roped man dive in after him. No one was eager to do this, so a rope was thrown into the hole. His wife, who had stayed at the hotel, was quickly informed, Houdini drowned! Houdini drowned!

Meanwhile, having freed himself, Houdini found that he could breath from air pockets that were trapped between the water and the ice. When he saw the rope, he grabbed it and climbed out of the hole. Cheers rang out from the crowd, and he was met by his wife, who was in tears.

Yeah, I definitely feel your pain. I have the same issues with my boiler. They recently fixed it so that the apartment is warmer, but the water is not as constant.

I don't mind bathing in ice cold water in the summer and spring, but in the winter, there is no way that is good for you, in a cold bathroom.

There's sound logic behind it.

I read not to shower in cold water, but to shower hot, really hot. Steam pouring off you kind of hot. It opens the pores, expands the skin, and lets the soap/shampoo sink in.

Then rinse in icy cold water. It causes the pores to close. Closing tight just after being cleaned prevents dirt and dust from the air getting in.

There's also the fact that athletes use hot/cold tubs. The heat causes the muscles to relax and open. Letting fresh blood rush in. They jump to a cold tub, and this causes muscle to contract. Pushing the blood out. This quick in and out of fresh blood to muscles allows oxygen to rush in which promotes faster healing and recovery.

Yeah, I'm all for extreme temperatures in saunas and jjimjilbangs. But it is as warm as a mother's womb in those places. It is not my concrete and tiled, freezing bathroom, in the middle of January!

The effect of this is temporary (a minute or two). Once your body temperature gets back to normal, the pores open back up. Which is why you have to keep doing this again and again and again.

The best shower is in a frozen lake or river. In Alaska. Cut yourself a hole in the ice - best with temps down to 30-40 below zero, TRY IT. You will love it. Make sure you stay in the water at least 4-6 minutes before attempting to get out Very Happy

Shower = a person stands in the enclosed area while the nozzle sprays water down on the body ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shower )

did you mean "best dip in an icy river" ?
