So, some friends and I were talking and they convinced me to buy an Xbox 360. We would be able to keep in touch better by playing Xbox live while I'm teaching in South Korea. Now that I want to buy one I don't know if I should get one while I'm in the States or when I get to South Korea.
Does anyone have any suggestions on which would be better? If I were to buy it in the States I would by the Xbox Elite Console for $299.
Any input would be great. |

I had an american xbox in korea and the biggest problem with it was getting games with the right region. Almost all the games I saw were for japan/korean machines. Play asia stocks american or universal games but they can be pricy. I am willing to bet you can get a 360 cheaper than 300 dollars in korea. |

Well, if I buy a 360 in Korea for cheeper than $300 and then go back to the states, wont I have trouble finding games that are compatable since it will be a korean machine? |

No, the Korean 360's are magic, they can play games from all the regions, and when you get bored of the games they turn them into delicious Kim Chi. |

I bought a used xbox here for 190 and its great. Most good games are non regional, but when you go back home you might be a little sol. Your best bet is to buy one here. However you have to be in Seoul, Daegu, or Busan to find one I am pretty sure. But yeah more fun then skpe, its almost like hanging out with friends back home. If you buy a US console, you will have to ind a power strip here, DO NOT plug it into a convertor, you will blow it up lol. |

The best bet is to buy an Xbox here off of the Buy/Sale/Trade forum...for $300 you can often get a system with 10 or more games and an extra controller. Then you can just sell it off when you leave.
Plus, if you have an American Xbox then you will have to run it through a transformer, which isn't a huge deal except that you have to buy a transformer and if you play for an extended period of time the transformer can get quite hot. |

majority of games are region free...only a few major titles are completely region locked...
and get it firmwared hacked...nothing like free gaming. |

if you want to play on live hacking the firmware is risky. xbl just banned over a million people. including me. firmware updates and new banhammers are coming more frequently now.
that being said, you can play most the games here on an american xbox. you can buy a korean one if you dont want to bring it home. otherwise, buying from ebay or whatever and having it shipped here is an option. the guys in yongsan will know if it works on us or not.
my recommendation, is to buy a korean xbox, dont get the firmware modded. |

I just got banned too, but other than playing with my friends in Seoul, it sucks overseas.
The timezone differences makes live much less fun...finding a game on a less popular title will frequently yield far less....and few play it in korea....and believe me. People who play at 5:30 am on a weekday do not use microphones.
Granted, it's not to big a problem on the most popular games, However the lack of rental places is the real killer....I just rent back home or buy used...not an option here. |

Usually, yes...EA is a real stickler for region coding, but about 90% of the games I've bought have worked on both my US and Korean 360s.
Wait until you get here to buy one. |
