|

I haven't been able to find any in Canada. I'm interested in doing a BEd at some point in my life and thought it might be advantageous to do it alongside working. I don't want to have to go back to Canada for two years just to do a BEd and lose all that money I could be making.
Anyway, is there a worthwhile online BEd programme? I'd go back to my home country for the practical if it was necessary. |

Sorry, but there is no such a thing as an Online B'Ed programme! In Canada you need to have a minimum of 2016hrs/12weeks in a final practicum inside a classroom to graduate with a B'Ed plus 2 additional short practicums for 2 weeks.
An online B'Ed doesn't do anything for you and WILL NOT be recognized, period.
We have a FAR superior B'Ed program than Korea has. Simply put. We have a more intensive and complete training system.
They get 1 week and a 45minute practicum.
We get 2016hrs = 12weeks + 2 additional practicums. |

Some universities - I think mainly in the UK and Australia - offer a (Post) Graduate Diploma of Education. It's a one year course for people who already have an undergraduate degree and want to get teacher certification.
But you can't do it online and you have to do at least 75 days of practicum. And the teaching area you chose has to be closely related to the courses you studied in your undergraduate degree.
I'm half-way through it now after teaching in Korea for a bit. Quite a few Canadians come here to take the course too. |

We also have welfare for when you graduate and can't find a job. |

Your undergraduate degree, in teacher training in the UK, is only relevant if you are doing the PGCE in secondary, higher or FE teaching. I believe that if you do the PGCE in primary teaching there is no restriction on what your degree is in. |

NZ (Victoria University at any rate) allows people to do the coursework online. You still have to be able to do the practicums (formerly 3x5 weeks, now 1x7+8 weeks).
The drop-out rate for people studying on-line was quite high. A lot of teaching subjects are ONLY offered on-line also which just involves some forums and reflections.
Felt like I was just ticking boxes quite often.
At any rate, you'll learn the most out on practicums and sections on classroom management. Doing classroom management on-line would be pretty pointless I think.
Beware of Universities stopping their on-line programmes if you're studying part-time!! |

Yep, that's the same in Australia too. Sorry, forgot about the Primary/Elementary option. |

I was wondering about the after degree program as well. It would be good if one could do some of the classes on line and then just go back to do the practicum, but I haven't found that to be possible with my university. |

The University of Southern Queensland, in Australia of course, has a distance BEd in just about every specialty: http://www.usq.edu.au/handbook/current/distedprog.html#Education
I don't know anything about it other than that it exists, and a lot of Dave's posters have distance MAs from that school. |
