I want to play New Super Mario Bros. Wii. An NTSC torrent for this game is impossible to find, and also a pain in the butt to get working.
If I buy the retail version of the game, will it automatically update my Wii? Can I play it without going through an update? |

If you buy the retail version and let it install your upgrades you'll likely lose your homebrew channel, which may or may not be currently recoverable depending on what firmware it upgrades to. Some loaders will block the upgrade process, but I trust that about as far as I can throw it (the idea, not the wii, I can probably throw that pretty far). If you upgrade your firmware with a disc with a different region than your system, you will brick it.
I googled "New Super Mario Bros Wii ntsc torrent" and got plenty of results. Many of those say they are "patched". What that means, I don't know because I haven't tried to get the game working myself, but it might have some kind of piracy protection. |

I got my Wii modded a month ago, and its more trouble than its worth. Constantly trying to download and install ciOS, playing around with launchers.
You get 1 game to work, and by doing so another game stops working. |

| The perils of trying to pirate the latest games... NeoGamma 7 seems to work great with just about everything. |

Yep Neogamma works for me.
NSMB is the only game that I've had any trouble with recently. |

| Neogamma is also able to run from USB. It tends to give me fewer black screens than USBLoader, but it still gives a few. Though actually I haven't had any since installing cIOS 14 and Neogamma rev. 7. |
