I'm curious, about how much are recruiters paid for each teacher they place in a school/hagwon?

Varies but I hear the average is about 1M, probably more for high prestige/pay gigs, probably less for high volume gigs.

1 mil seems to be the going rate from everyone I asked. Alot of the bigger companies do their own recruiting these days. I mean post the job on a few sites and make some calls. Not hard to do themself.

Another thing to remember is that the recruiter also has to wait a couple of months after they place a teacher.

Recruiters have to place at LEAST one teacher into a school EVERY week - just to make the average 3 million a month...

* The recruiter cannot work as a recruiter unless they have purchased the government "recruiter licence" (expensive)

* The recruiter cannot work as a recruiter unless they have their own "office" (expensive) - they must prove this in order to be a registered business (recruiter)

* The have to pay 20% tax - which is what all Korean companies pay

* If there are any problems initially with the new teacher or their visa process - the school/hagwon does not have to pay

So even placing 5 teachers per month - leaves them with just a small-average salary of 3 million won/month

if he wanted to do it legal! 80% of them don't!

the charge around 1- 1.5million..
but they also have to gaurantee the school the teacher wont run within 3 months.. if the teacher pulls a runner the recruiter has to replace the teacher free of charge,..

The fee and services differ from recruiter to recruiter. I know of one who charges 1.2 and offers a full year guarantee against runners. And I know of another who charges 1.5 and offers a 3 month guarantee.

Wrong. The recruiters license costs around 30,000 to 50,000won from memory. That's real expensive Rolling Eyes .

This is true. They do need a physical office to get a recruiters license and business license which are two separate things. Also, It's not very expensive to get an office. Around 2,000,000 to 10,000,000won key money and 150,000 to 400,000 a month rent depending on location and size. You just need to be willing to take the time to look around a bit and not take the first thing you see.

You have absolutely no idea about business in Korea. Not all companies pay 20% tax. In fact, most pay very little tax compared to our home countries and nothing even close to 20%

Again, wrong. The school only doesn't pay if no teacher is placed there. The school can get a refund if the teacher doesn't work out for whatever reason but they can also usually choose to have the teacher replaced instead which is generally what the schools choose because it's quicker that way.

It also depends on the contract between the school and the recruiting company. They do vary between length of gaurantee given and recruitment fee amount. Most give a gaurantee of 1 to 3 months on the teacher placed of either money back or replacement teacher. For public school teachers, it's longer. They generally charge between 1 mil to 1.5 mil. Each company is slightly different.

Also, any decent recruiter would have double checked and verified everything to make sure there will be no visa processing problems.

Most of the time, problems can be solved and mediation used.

Placing 5 teachers a month, in reality, will net them a nice chunk of change. Quite a bit more than 3 mil.

I would argue that the high cost that is paid to the recruiter comes out of your salary. Where else would it come from? The boss' take? That is why I think it is preferable to not use a recruiter. You could negotiate for a higher salary since you could argue that the school didn't have to pay for a recruiter.

And in my experience, the schools that I went and visited for an interview that was set up by a recuiter have usually been a bit "off" in some way.

Wrong. Just because it says I joined this cafe recently - I may have lived half-my-life in Korea.

1mil X 5 = 5 million then deduct cost of office, electricity, office building fees, advertising fees, travel fees, company tax, etc

Total profit per month = not that big after all - merely just an average salary

This is why my hagwon give people who resign a "raise" of 100,000. Really they are just saving the 1,200,000 that they would have given to a recruiter and giving it to you. They don't actually have to spend any more money.

They are still spending the same money ( 100,000won X 12 months = 1,200,000won )

However, the Hagwon is just employing the same teacher who they already know and trust - rather than getting a new teacher who they don't know.

Well, I've lived here over 8 years, own a hagwon, a recruiting company, and am an English teacher. I think I may know a little bit more about the subuject.

And all your said expenses are easily covered by a mil, actually less. That's 4 mil a month salary. Still better than your average foreigen English teacher in Korea.

So - you thought I was a newbie - because my ID says I joined in November 2009..

So shouldn't most people then "based on using your assumptions" think you have only been here 4.5~5 years - based on your ID ??

next time - don't jump to assumptions and accuse "Newbies of knowing everything"...

next.. I said "an average salary" - I DID not say an average "Foreign English teachers salary"

what is your next mistake going to be?
