|
|
I've been waiting for the Blackberry Bold's price to drop for awhile now. It hasn't happened, but they ARE allowing people to spread the cost of the phone into monthly installments (you can walk out of the store without paying upfront for the phone).
So I have a couple questions for all you BB users.
1. What app or program do you use for the Seoul Metro?
2. What app or program do you use for the Korean>English>Korean dictionary?
Thanks in advance! |

i've been using the bold since august. amazing phone.
no app that i know of for the seoul metro. you can just upload an image of the seoul metro on your phone and use it that way if you'd like.
for dictionary i use a program called bbtran. its just a frontend to google translate, so i can get translations for words and rough translations for sentences. love it. |

Thanks steveohan.
I know that for bbtran, you need an established connection. I was hoping that there would be an app available for the BB that is installed onto the phone itself so you don't need to be connected to the internet? Anyone know of such an app?
As for the metro, that's a good idea, but what about an app where you can choose your 'from' and 'to' destinations and the app would calculate your average time to your destination and shortest route (like they have on most of the Korean phones here)?
I know that Seoul Metro has a website where you can do the above, but I'm not sure if the BB browser can access it (link below for all you BB users to test).

there is no such app that i know of for the subway...and that link wont work on the bb browser.
as for bbtran, yes you need an internet connection, but if you get a blackberry you need a data plan anyway. the amount of data the translation app uses is tiny. |

| Is blackberry actually out in South Korea? I thought u couldnt use blackberry service here because they use CDMA instead of GSM. Where can I get a blackberry and how much is it? |

Only the Blackberry Bold is available here. It's about 800,000 KRW, but if you get yourself a 2 year contract, you can have that price spread throughout your monthly payments so you don't have to fork over 800,000 up front.
This is the place I called and will most likely buy mine from.

QUESTION -
this is important.
i want one of these phones. i'm on an e-2 visa. i have no korean to sign up in their name.
is it at all possible to get this phone subsidized (instead of paying the full price up front) on a 1-2 year contract?
i talked to TWO sk shops and was turned down at both (due to my e-2 status).
has ANYONE ACTUALLY received a contract for this phone with an e-2 visa without paying the full print at the time of purchase?
if so, where and HOW did you do it? please share. |

Can't say much about the E2 visa, but I know that if you opt for a new number, you can get one for around 600,000 KRW.
HTH in some way. |

ive been rocking the bold since september.
im on an e2. i had to put a 200,000 won deposit down.
on a 1 year contract i paid around 400,000+ for it if i recall correctly.
its been incredible.
sadly, multimail can get screwed up sometimes if coming from a ktf phone. steve im curious if youve had issues with multimail and long txts...?
i use the same trans. app as steveohan, and also have simply saved a high res image of the seoul subway map and access it when need be.
i have a 16gb media card so it doubles as a pod.
its glorious. |

I am about to get a Blackberry Bold as well.
I had some quick questions:
. I looked through the Bold's brochure and there's no mention of Blackberry Messenger. Am I correct to assume that it's installed on the Korean Blackberries?
. How much data (MB) do you use a month? I consider myself an average user (daily: heavy BBM use, 40 emails, 10 web pages), and I'm told 700MB won't cover me. This sounds a little far-fetched to me. |
