There was a post here a few days ago about the important people in Asia. No Koreans were included. I don't know if this is fair or not but I don't really know of many great Korean public figures.

I am not making this post to have a dig at Korea but I would be really interested to know who is important in Korea other than the people we all know.

I am wondering if there are any young figures who are trying to implement changes in society, are there influential figures in women's rights, for example?

I am aware of some excellent young clothes designers but would like to know who else could be important in Korea, Asia and the world this year or in the coming years.

I think Lee Hyo-Ri is important in Korea. I mean you would have to be
dead six months not to get serious hormonal urges for that one. I think
after that it would be the presidents of the major Korean breweries. Then
if the woman isn't as HAWT as Lee Hyo-Ri, we could get some maekju
goggles.

This is actually a very good question and I'd be interested if anyone has any examples.

Never understood why people go gaga over Hyori. Have you seen her on those shows without makeup? Yikes. Oh, and she's an adjumma. And I never liked her stomach, it seems like it's on the verge of being a flabby gut.

I assume most know president Lee, UN secretary general Ban, the crazy psycho Kim up north. Also some popular entertainers such as Rain and Hyori. I don't know if people consider them 'important', but they are popular and influential nonetheless. And there are sports stars such as Kim Yuna, Park Jisung, Park Chan Ho, KJ Choi, Seri Park, that guy that won major PGA title, etc. Some other well known Korean figures,

Catholic cardinal Kim Soo Hwan
orchestra conductor Jung
Soprano Cho Soomi(?)
Stem cell researcher Hwang (well he was famous and important until that thing happened, and even more famous after)

Is it just me, or do Koreans generally not talk about Ban Ki-moon? Seems like he would be a huge source of Korean pride.

I dunno about that. How about the soju posters and the Ocean World
ad? Also, when she gets on stage these days and gets all kitted out in
sexy clothes, she has got some serious junk. Smile But yeah, I remember
when she was like 18 or 19 and in that girlie band where she got her
start. hmmmmm.

I think it might be because she looks a bit "gettable"...

Very Happy

I have noticed this as well. I have adjummas and adjosshi bragging about the Wondergirls, but not a peep about Ban.

Korean people who are important to Koreans and Korean people who are important to the world are different.

Yeah, definitely. I taught my kids about Ban Ki-moon the other day. No one had heard of him. I mention Park Ji-sung on the other hand.....
