Anyone know of somewhere to buy good quality thai boxing gloves around Anyang or in Seoul? Could buy some online, but not really keen on waiting two weeks, my knuckles are getting jacked using my gyms lender gloves.
Thanks! |

| The only place in Seoul I am aware of that sells boxing equipment is in Dongdaemun. Going online is your best bet and since this is Korea, it probably won't take two weeks. I also have a pair of new gloves I could sell if you're around my area. |

| dongdaemun stadium station exit 4. about a year ago i had to go there to get some rugby stuff and right by exit 4 was a sports shop. at the back they had some stuff. i got a few mouthguards in there anyhow. like i said they had 'some' boxing stuff. there seemed to be a few shops dotted around there with boxing equipment in the window. but i reckon online is best as im not 100% on it being western boxing stuff |

I have a pair of Yoo Yang bag gloves. These are made strictly for bag work so 5oz, I think. Not a lot of padding so if you have sensitive hands and/or hit like a truck, you might want something bigger. I already have two other pairs of gloves so I don't need them.
They're something like this minus the velcro straps.

I don't know how much you know about boxing gear, but you have to be careful about buying just any boxing brand. Cheap boxing equipment can not only fall apart after only a couple months of usage, but they can also harm you. Yoo Yang and Nova are the best Korean brands so you should check out their sites (assuming you read Korean) or look for their stuff at Dongdaemun. Ringside also has a Korean site http://ringside.co.kr.

Kickboxing and Muay Thai gear is perfectly compatible with western boxing as long as they're from reputable brands. So that's another option you can look at OP. The only real difference between Muay Thai gloves and boxing gloves is that Muay Thai gloves are a bit more flexible and have detached thumbs to allow the fighter to grab the opponent. |

I'm not sure if you are picky about gloves, but my ex-girlfriend was an amateur boxer, and I ordered 2 sets of gloves and headgear so that we could spar together.
Sadly, we broke up the day before they arrived from gmarket. I have used one pair, but the other pair of gloves are still in bag.
I have no use for them, and will gladly give them to you for free. They are made by "STAR" 14oz...red. Ill also give you one of the headgear I ordered as well (some cheap Chinese brand, red)
If you want them, or haven't bought others already..PM me your address..and I will gladly send them up to you (delivery will be 1-2 days) |

coralreefer- sorry to hear about your girlfriend.
Unforturnately, I too am a girl and I think 14oz gloves are a bit too big for me. Thanks a lot for the offer though!
Maybe you should hang onto them in case you find another ass kicking girlfriend to fight. But actually, from personal experience, I would advice against sparring with your significant other. Hasn't worked out too well for me |

The chances of me actually meeting another woman like that are very slim..but there is always hope!
I got her the heavier gloves than what she wears in the tournaments, because I could see her punches dropping down from exhaustion after the first few rounds. I was trying to get her to practice combos with heavier gloves with me holding the mitts to try to give her shoulders more endurance and help her to be able to have the strength in the match to throw her punches straight without them dropping because of muscle fatigue.
Concerning sparring with the significant other, we had an experience that ended up will me taking her down to the floor MMA style to protect against a flurry of punches, ending with my elbow through one of the glass panes of one of the sliding doors in my house. A small cut, but wow that was HOT!
Good luck with the with the gloves! |
