| I am a public school employee in the sticks and would like to get to Seoul. Would consider a hogwan for a year. Never worked in one before. What should I expect? Also, which ones are the best to work for? Pay on time. Work requirements. Good boss. Decent working time. |

No hogwan in brand name is good by choice. In all fairness it depends on the imprrssion, and management. Many chains are under different management, so it would be hard to say what ones are good.
The bigger hogwans IMO also like teachers as groups who all get along and many times compare your work to one or two hogwan stars atm.
If I was going back to Seoul, I would try the public school, after school programs. |

You are in for some surprises. They are more demanding in Seoul and unless you are willing to put up with it, I highly suggest against working at a hagwon in Seoul. The chances you will get a decent one are not in your favor.
I had some relief by teaching adults, but they wouldn't split up into their levels. So, it ended up being a pointless class. The higher level students would explain things in Korean while I just sat there with a lesson ready, if they listened. They didn't, so I eventually quit.
I think you are better off looking for an area close to and outside the Seoul area. |

How easy or difficult is it to get an after school program? Never thought of that but have heard of them. They hire same as Public School with same benefits but maybe slightly less hours? Is it competitive? Probably. |
