|
|
anyone else got one of these debit cards from back home? If so, anyone had any issues withdrawing money with the card? Because of work I haven't been able to get to the bank until after 7pm and can't seem to withdraw any money. Do they only allow withdrawals during Korean banking hours or something? This is with KEB and Standard Chartered bank by the way. Called up Nationwide and there isn't a stop on my card so I can only assume that's the reason |

| I don't think it has anything to do with the bank.. it's more to do with the restrictions from the Korean side. I can't find any info, yet.. but if I do, I will let you know. |

| About as useful as a chocolate teapot out here I would have thought. Maybe you can use it up in Seoul village somewhere. |

| I have used mine in a load of different ATMs. Can't remember which though, as it was when I first got here and now I just use the Korean card. |

Yeah I used to use mine all the time at the start, before I got my Korean account. Usually there is only one (sometimes two) machines that accept foreign cards. The KEB near where I live has a couple of machines labelled INTERNATIONAL ATM and my Nationwide card works fine there. |

| I've used my UK debit card to withdraw cash from cashpoints at subway stations which is the only place it seemed to work. Even the cashpoints at banks marked 'Global ATM' didn't work for me. |

| i have a normal cash card from them. i only have the account to use abroad as it is free to withdraw. i use mine all the time. it tends to work in the atms in the gs25's. if you are in itaewon, then opposite the hamilton hotel is a newsagent. the cash machine outside works fine. |

had no problems withdrawing in the past at the Global ATM's at KEB......just started to try in the late evenings at KEB and couldn't even get 1,000 won out.....always got some banking error code from the receipt. Anyone else tried withdrawing in the evenings without a problem?
Maybe I'll try out the GS25's next time if I keep having problems at KEB |

| sorry mate, i thought you was joking then. you'll understand when you get here. GS25 is a corner shop type thing. often 24hours. they are everywhere. you would need to be pretty remote not to have one within walking distance. they have the machines like you get in pubs and nightclubs back home. the stand alone things that charge 2.50 (or whatever it is these days) to take money out. either way, you wont have a problem using your bank card somewhere here. however i'd recommend getting a nationwide account as its free to withdraw money from home. no charge or commission. you get the days rate. |

I had some trouble with my Natwest Maestro when I first arrived. It didn't work in the 'Global ATMs' around town, but after re-trying them all one then decided to work. There wasn't a block on the card. So....errr...just keep trying, they seem a little random. But try to get a Nationwide one before, it'll only take a week to get it and it is (was) free withdrawals. |

So if you use GS25 you will get charged? shame about the new charges that are being brought in in July, didn't know about that. it's not much but i'm stingy
I think Abbey have a similar card for free withdrawals but maybe a small monthly fee IIRC |

| KEB is the only bank i've managed to get my nationwide card to work at. Dam it sucks that they are changing the rules as well. Don't use it much at all in Korea but during the summer vacation I was going to use it exclusively in Thailand and the ilk because K cards blow. |

Bump.
Does anyone know about Lloyds TSB debit cards? I withdrew money twice from a global ATM at my nearest branch of KB* over a week ago. I was in Seoul last night and I tried my card in two KB* machines in different branches and nothing. I eventually managed to find a Citibank which had a global ATM which worked. I got back to town this morning and tried withdrawing money at the KB* that I had withdrew money from previously and it never gave me anything (said the same on the receipt as when I tried to withdraw money last night). Any suggestions? |
