A short video about how addresses work in Japan, might work in class.

Their numbering system doesn't seem reasonable for finding where a building is.

What he didn't say is that even the Japanese can't use their own system to find addresses (buildings or homes). They have to go to the local koban (police box) and ask an officer where their destination is. The police officer will point out the home on a massive map on the wall.

Yet, I'll bet a Japanese person with a street address and a map would have a much better chance to find a building on his / her own than an American in Japan.

So, in fact, contrary to what the video says, the opposite isn't true. There are just better or more efficient ways to do things and the Japanese have it all wrong here.
