Peter Schiff has not yet announced, but his exploratory committee has raised over $800,000 so far.
Looks like he'll go for it.

Now THAT is some change I can believe in.
However, I don't have any faith that the people of Connecticut will elect someone that will actually put America's interests first, considering they keep electing Dodd who puts himself first and Lieberman who puts Israel first. |

I don't really have an opinion on Schiff for Senate. If this can be seen as a step in the right direction - as the beginnings of an ultra-capitalist public consciousness - then great, but I doubt it.
Anyway, I don't know enough about Schiff to mention him in the Favorite Economists thread, but this was great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgMclXX5msc
For those who don't know, Schiff wrote a book (in 2007) on how to profit from the financial crisis. A smart man. |

That book is super spooky. I read it 6 months ago and had to keep checking that it really was written in 2007. I can save you the trouble of reading it for its financial advice. Buy gold is the gist of it. |

I think most voters will be too scared to vote him in. The average citizen has no idea how markets work and are misinformed that the financial crisis is a result of 'free markets'. Dodd has plenty of money to smear him on that basis. Also, people want to actually see legislation at the moment, and his campaign is anti-government in a time when people want more protection and more stimulus due to the frightening economy.
There's simply not enough rational people to vote him in. And I'm not quite a Peter Schiff acolyte yet. His investments are getting killed at the moment, no? |

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Connecticut now finds Dodd attracting just 35% to 40% of the vote against three possible Republican challengers.
Former GOP Congressman Rob Simmons is still his toughest opponent, leading Dodd 48% to 35%. Seven percent (7%) prefer some other candidate in this contest, and 11% are undecided. Those figures are a slight improvement for Simmons since September.
The newest Republican in the race, Linda McMahon, the ex-CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, earns 44% of the vote to Dodds 38%. Eight percent (8%) opt for another candidate, with nine percent (9%) not sure.
Long-shot candidate Peter Shiff, the widely-known president of Euro Pacific Capital, is essentially even with Dodd and holds a one-point edge, 40% to 39%. In their race, eight percent (8%) like some other candidate, and 14% are undecided. |
