Hello All,

I am currently working in Shanghai, China. Chinese New Year is mid-February (a couple months away!!!) and I wanted to take a trip to Korea. I figure it will be cold and possibly snowing there around that time, BUT I plan to parking myself during most of the days in a cafe and working on my master's thesis. When I am not working on my thesis I want to do a few things, see a few things and not make it a complete work trip. Any suggestions? I was initially planning on going to Seoul and I wanted to stay around the Hongdae area but I'm open to other ideas!

Thanks for any tips!

Go skiing (during the week it won't be so crowded and you can go as a long day trip from Seoul) and go to a sauna. Plenty of good wifi cafes in most cities so if you have the time, you might want to get out into the countryside a bit.

Hotels start at W30000 (a single woman can sometimes get a better rate) and are pretty decent. www.couchsurfing. com is another option and a good way to meet people. There are some hostels in Korea, but not so much of a traveler scene and probably not what you want if you're trying to work on a thesis!

If you're in Seoul and you need a break, hike up Namsan, or take a real hike in Bukhansan. It can be beautiful in winter-- but bring some good shoes (or buy some at Jongno-5 ga).
