| I have only been in South Korea a short time (NPI)ave had this question asked to me at least two dozen times. 5'4 is short, but not so short, today one of the co=workers boy friends asked me that, and I just said 'why is Korea so small?' And he said ..............'Japan'! |

| I'm 5'7 and a guy, nobody said anything to me about being short there! 5'4 isn't short for a girl anyway, i think it' fine. Sometimes I wish I could be a little taller but theres nothing I can do about it so accept it! |

Just ask the men who say that to you how tall they are. If they are less than 180cm just smile and whisper "loser".
They will quickly shut-up...or mumble "Japan".
Or a side note, glad to see you are getting out! |

You're short, you're tall, you're fat, you're thin, you shaved, you didn't shave, you look tired, you look sick, your hair's long, your hair's short, you're wearing a shirt today, you're wearing a t-shirt today.............Korean's are masters at stating the obvious. I really think that it comes down to an inability to shoot the breeze with others. In my experience Koreans just can't do small talk.....or at least not what we consider to be small talk.
There is also a lack of boundaries (in the western sense) in Korean society when it comes to talking to others.....commenting on physical aspects of others in a negative way is the best way to alienate yourself back home, however here it is a sign of being friendly and feeling comfortable enough with you to say such things (although I do think some people use this to directly insult people whilst claiming to just be joking and / or care about you....some of the female teachers at my school suffer borderline harrasment from their male colleagues in this manner).
It's something that I have never been able to acclimate myself to and is something that annoys me daily at school.....I actively try to avoid most of the Korean staff nowadays because I would rather not have them comment on every aspect of how I look. |

Refer to my other thread regarding my preference for tall women.
However, with that being said- I think if a woman is short and petite and have T&A, then she is sexy and would look awesome in a miniskirt.
The problem with many short Korean women is that they don't have anything that compensates for their lack of height. At least a western woman might have some T&A in the absence of being tall.
Many Japanese women at least have the T&A and would look awesome in a one-piece- which is something that is lacking in Korea and China.
But in defense of the few, there are some exceptions in Korea. |

Gotta be your choice of shoes. I'm an inch taller than you and my students often commented on me being tall |

The solution to this 'problem' is to teach kids--the younger the better. In comparison, you'll be tall.
When I first arrived I was startled to find myself (at not quite 5'9") the tallest person in a room of adults. There was even an optical illusion--adult male Koreans looked tall when sitting down, but shrank as they stood up. It was weird. Nowadays, I'm back to being the shortest male in the room. Darn that milk in early childhood! |
