Does anyone know about this orientation. I just got the notice today but it's on a weekend, I already had plans but had to cancel them... >.<

Anyone else going? I've been teaching over a year (I'm on my second year contract) but this is my first orientation haha

I was just told about it too. I'm in my 3rd year, and went to the required orientation the first year.

What can they tell me that has to be covered in 4 days...over the weekend.... and can't be sent in an email or newsletter? I'll lose my pay for afterschool classes too, I'm sure.

I had a dinner on Friday and was supposed to be out of town for my MIL's birthday party but I'm told that all FT's have to go, no exceptions.

I'll call GEPIK tomorrow and see if I truly have to go and what the orientation will be about.

Is this for middle/high school or elementary? Wait, middle and high school had theirs last week (during the week). Why would GEPIK have one on the weekend? I would never give up a weekend for an "orientation."

I've been roped into this one too.

On the bright side my co-teacher now understands the true meaning of a British raised eyebrow.

I am in the same boat too, this is my fourth contract and I am not happy about the weekend thing either. But I told my school that I will attend Thursday and Friday, but as far as the weekend goes I have plans and will not break them for this and if I do have to go I expect overtime pay, I think that is fair since it does say in our contracts that we don't work on the weekends and this is considered work if they are making us go to it. Plus on Sunday it is just a field trip (OH WOW) places I have already been and have no desire going back what a waste of time for me, I have beeter things to do, as do as do most of us I am guessing. Now why should I have to change my plans when we are not given a decent amount of notice (say like two weeks) to know about this (another example of great planning) What they need to do is use the money they are spending for this and educate the staff, co-teachers and anyone who deals with western teachers on the differences in cultures, rituals and etiquette, my thoughts anyways on this. As you might guess I am a little unhappy about this, but this unhappiness stems from them putting it over a weekend, if this was all durring the week I would not be as upset, I would still be not happy about things, but I would suck it up but the weekend are mine.

what is the deal..... what will we possibly do that can benefit me a veteran of 7 years.....

We have been told that we have to attend from Thursday to monday and that we HAVE to sleep over. Despite the fact that I have a cat, my coworker has a dog. we are not happy... plus yes we lose our afterschool pay and and being pressured into changing our vacation tickets, to work three days during our vaca..
