"I agree with weightlifter (Jang Mi-ran) who said 'I hope Korea does not host the World Championships again.'"
After claiming her fourth straight world title last month in Goyang, Jang said competing at home put far too much pressure on her.
"Those who are not familiar with figure skating sometimes clap at the wrong time, which makes me perplexed,'' she said.
"Especially, I was confused when I saw the way the audience reacted and the way they behaved. Just before I was about to jump, I could still hear them making noise. During the six-minute warm-up, I just wanted it to end, it was too much. So I thought about withdrawing."

It must be quite the feeling to have a nation's hopes and dreams placed on your shoulders. I can only imagine how Manny Pacquiao feels when he fights.
I wonder if Koreans will respect her statement or if the army of 30-year-old netizen virgins will try to burn her at the stake. |

I bet the short track skaters called her up later and said, "boo hoo. Applause causes pressure? You should try beatings." |

Yeah, she basically told Koreans they don't know how to behave in these kinds of settings. Big mistake to hurt their pride. Oh well. |

Somebody has to do it. Koreans absolutely act like middle schoolers at sporting events. No respect for whatever game is being played at the time.
I had a friend last year that went to a few of the Olympic events. He was there to cheer on his own country as well as Korea. He said several of the Koreans had to be kicked out of the archery events because they would make noises or talk loudly when the other team was shooting. A few of the guys made a big scene while being escorted out, shouting nonsense like "This is proof the world doesn't respect Korea! Dae han min gook!!" Other Koreans just dropped their heads in shame.
It's really hard to imagine an entire country that gets locked into a 7th grade mentality and just never progresses forward. Alas... |

Good for her. Unfortunate that there will probably be a lot of backlash against her for it, but maybe it'll help in the long run. |

Watch at 1:01. Fans had been heckling, spitting and tossing beer on this guy. I think he was DQ'd but it's just one hint that fans of many sports are puds everywhere.

There needs to be some sort of crash course in International sporting etiuette. Koreans can act any way they want during Korean domestic sporting events, but if other countries are watching, they should probably
adopt global spectator mannerisms. |

Whats really annoying are the super loud drums they like to bang on. Surprised a fan from an opposing team hasn't grabbed on of those drums and shoved it up the drummers a** |

You do realize that heckling and throwing beer is a hall mark tradition in cyclocross racing right? That's the only reason anyone ever goes to see 'em. It's not the fan's fault in this case that the guy snapped.
Back at home at a good race we've got cow bells, beer bongs, kegs, hot tubs, and mud slinging and the racers generally love it. It's the first timers and the guys who can't relax who get worked up about it.
Of course, the doesn't apply to all sports - cyclocross is somewhat unique. |

I'm ashamed of the way South African spectators behave at football events. They make one helluva noise when they blow on their vuvuselas (plastic trumpet things). Teams have complained that the noise is too distracting and that they can't hear on the field.
Wonder what the world cup will be like. |

One thing that people seem to be missing is that this is not football or even cycling, it is FIGURE SKATING for christ's sake. It's a sport where dolled up young men and women prance around on ice to classical music. Not the kind of sport where you cheer and make noise during the game. Bringing noisemakers and clapping and cheering at the wrong times during figure skating is like trying to start a mosh pit at the symphony. So wrong! |

Yeah any country has its share of rowdy sports fans, but figure skating isn't really a sport. Its more of an art performance. |

Not in the slightest. She could say she doesn't like Kimchi, and Korea would still love her. Her fame is needed. |
