|
|
I own a Mac, so Korean websites are throwing me for a loop.
Either they load improperly, or just refuse to load at all. If they do in fact load, there are large chunks missing, or parts of the page won't work, such as buttons, text boxes, etc.
I tried changing browers (Firefox, Safari...), and even downloaded IE for Mac. Still doesn't work.
If it's not in the browser, then what are Korean websites doing that makes them function improperly on a Mac?
Just curious.
Oh, and is there any way to solve this internet problem for Macs here?
Thanks |

Korean websites should work fully with IE8. Updated and plug-in's installed. If not, then it's a problem with the Mac version.....because it all works for Windows users.
Don't bother using any other browser for K-websites. Korea is all about Windows and IE. |

Our university website will not work with IE 8 in 64-bit for Windows 7 yet. Compatibility mode or not. ActiveX issues. Drives me batty. |

If you are on an Intel based Mac, I would install VMware + Windows. If you need to use Windows, heavily, it might be better to install Bootcamp + Windows.
Basically, it's all legacy software. Banks are a major cause of the problem since online banking and payment gateways all require ActiveX. Their whole system utilizes it and it takes time + resources to move away from it. Since almost all Koreans use IE, they don't see reason to invest those resources... yet. Starting next year, INICIS (major payment gateway) will introduce a payment method that doesn't require ActiveX but it will take time for sites to integrate it.
I met with the founder of a major Internet service in Korea that utilizes ActiveX. He had a MacBook and I asked him how he uses his site. He says he has a separate PC at work. |

A lot of Korean individuals and institutions will need to be dragged screaming and kicking into the post-XP and post-ActiveX age. |

It's not even an IE thing. It's specifically and IE version 6 thing! IE 7 and 8 broke a lot of Korean sites and they still haven't updated them to work properly. |

No kidding. They bought all new quad-core LG PC's and slapped XP on them. Worse, they make it roll back every day so IE and Windows continually try to update and reboot during my classes. The viruses stay, however.
I have now come to the conclusion that Ahn labs must make money off of allowing certain Korean software makers to propagate their crap pay anti-malware software by use of a trojan downloader imbedded in autorun.inf. Every other software maker... EVERY ONE catches this. Ahn Labs allows it, despite them being contacted and made aware of the problem. |

Why do they never include opera?
Firefox is slow and always needing restarts, never liked chrome, ie8 while opens quick takes ages before it will let you do anything and never tried safari.
I have found opera works on alot of korean sites (not the koreanherald tho) but I can but stuff through gmarket |

Some sites are just programmed specifically for IE6. Until they decide to reprogram for IE8 (forget the general case) its just going to be that way. |
