"A speller is allowed to start over spelling a word, but if they change the letters already said, it counts as a misspelling and causes automatic elimination."
so, say one is spelling "APPLE" and says "APL",
then restarting and saying "APPLE" is an automatic elimination? |

Unless it's for the World Cup of Spelling cut the kids some slack, I'd say. |
