Hi,

Was wondering if anyone works/worked there and what job conditions were like.

Any information would be great.

I don't know that area very well, but doesn't seem too bad from other discussions here. It doesn't look like there's a train that goes there though. Is that right?

It looked like an OK job.

I interviewed there and almost took it.

It was for about 2.5 or 2.7, something like that.

The housing was OK. Nothing fantastic, but OK.

Chuncheon in itself is one of the coldest places to live in Korea and has a lot of foggy mornings, according to people who live there.

I didn't accept the job because I wanted to be closer to Seoul.

I took a big chance because it was like musical chairs and almost all the chairs were full and March 1 was quickly approaching, but it worked out for me.

They've got a nice CGV cinema there that seemingly is never sold out.

And of course you have the lake nearby and in summer there's water skiing and such going on, and snow skiing is also nearby in the winter.

I'd also like to be closer to Seoul, but (for certain reasons) didn't start applying till Nov.
So I figure an hour bus ride away wouldn't be so bad. I wasn't that big on Seoul before but my sister lives there now.

Chuncheon is one of the best cities in the country, in my opinion. I haven't found it colder than Seoul, and I'm not sure that that's really a good reason to not move somewhere anyway. Everything you'd need or want is here, minus ethnic food. Feel free to get in touch if you're looking for more information about the city.

To answer the OPs question - there is a train that goes from here to Cheongyangni in Seoul, takes 2 hours, beautiful trip. There's also a subway being built here to connect to the Seoul Metro - I'm not sure what the progress is like but the track structure is almost finished so I'm going to assume that it's opening in 2010.

I know two people who currently work at Kangwon and they both seem like it, both like the city. The adults that they're teaching can be a pain in the ass, but I suppose that's the same everywhere. Are you applying for the teacher-training job or a normal professor position, if you don't mind my asking? Either way, Kangwon has had foreigners teaching there for a long time and they seem to know what they're doing. Good luck!

Thanks oldtactics. I remembered your other posts re Chuncheon and it sounded like a not-so-bad place.

The job I applied for was at the Language Institute. The ad says "credit courses" so I'm not sure who exactly the students are.
I teach at a Language Institute now and they're not "credit courses" so students don't really have to do anything for a grade, which I'm not thrilled with.

Does the bus to Seoul also take 2 hours? Or is it shorter?

Nah, much shorter. There are two bus routes, one that takes 1.5 hours and one that takes an hour even - just depends on which bus terminal you want to go to (DongSeoul vs. Express Bus Terminal). Both of them are in pretty central locations and are right next to subway stations.
