Yesterday was a end of the year party of sorts at my school. Classes ended early and we ate bacon and drank red and rice wine.
I met our school's detective, and person I didn't even know exist. Since my school is prone to destruction and theft, it's his job to find out who did what. We talked a little but he didn't get all up in my business, which I appreciated.
I went home a little after that and he just happened to ride by on his bike. He said have a nice day, but watched me as I walked away. 2 seconds later he's riding past me again and runs up to a bar in front of me. He comes back and says that bar is closed but that he wants to drink with me. I've...grown a fancy to alcohol recently so I take him up on his offer. I thought we would talk about some Sparkling Korea bull but had no reason to turn him down.
To my surprise, the first things out of his mouth was that my middle school is a horrible institution and the kids are the worst he had ever seen in his life. He is the second teacher [the first is a co-teacher, that's another story...] to admit this to me. Usually when I try to talk about this to my school, they just deny, tell me to "understand", and then tell me I DON'T understand Korean culture. When I mention this, he said it's a load of bull. This is his first year working [volunteering actually] at this school and he only choose this school because he lives less than a block away from it. He said after the year is up he will quit and wants nothing to do with the school. DA-YAM~!
I was so happy to drink with this guy. He was mad cool. After the ranting, he talked about his Vietnam war days, his former job as a Korean army police detective, and some other random things [a little Japanese hating of course]. Overall though, I had a great time, and it's cool one person got real at my school.
I said before a co-teacher had already confided in me these same feelings. Her story is that she's ~50 but still living at home with the parents. Why? She has A SECRET LIFE IN JAPAN! Apparently she owns residence in Tokyo and goes to Japan secretly for months at a time. She changes her hair color, puts on make-up, and wears differently clothing. She can't even speak Japanese! DA-YAM~!

| You may have found a friend, but still be careful how much you tell him. You do work together. |

I'm getting the impression of someone in the same vein as FromtheUK here.
