My fiance and I are planning on coming to Korea this summer to teach, and I'm graduating later this month with a BA in Economics from the University of Nebraska. I'm confident that I will make all the grades I need to graduate, but I just crunched some numbers, and I think one of my grades is going to be a D. I've also had 1 or 2 other D's in my college career, but my GPA is still right around 3.0.
I don't consider myself to be a great scholar by any stretch of the imagination, but I also don't think a couple D's in 4 1/2 years is a big deal. Does anyone see this becoming an issue when it comes time for the school to send our transcripts to Korean immigration? Sorry if this has been discussed... I tried to search, but didn't see anything.
Also, I'm really only concerned about being granted our visas. We have been in touch with a school in Yongin for some time now; they just won't finalize anything until February when they know how many current teachers are staying. I'm friends with one of the current teachers and he's told me that he already knows of more than 2 who will be leaving.
Thanks in advance, Bob |

I just signed a contract and sent all my documents to the school in SK and they are in the process of bringing them to immigration. My grades were under a 3.0. I got a job and I'm not sure if immigration will turn me down after seeing my transcripts or not. I always assummed they wanted the transcripts as another piece of proof of your degree.
If anyone else knows if immigration makes a decision on grades please share. |

One of the first things my recruiter did when she got in contact with me was confirm my GPA, which was on the higher end. I was already in the country in the time, so I don't think it had anything to do in terms of immigration. Don't know anything for certain, but my guess would be that my GPA helped convince my recruiter that I was worth representing. |

They may have wanted to use your GPA to ask for more money for your placement. |

yeah one of my recruiters from GEPIK asked for GPA on the interview form. My GPA was sub-3.0. Maybe I got no shot then in this employer's market |

My GPA is written on my resume. The recruiter that got me the job here with SMOE, mentioned it during the interview--a couple of times. All I can say is that I applied in mid-January 2009, got interviewed a couple of days later and had the job a week later. The process was very fast. It might not have had anything to do with just the GPA, but every little thing helps. If your GPA isn't that high, don't write it down. They probably won't ask about it here. |
