Hello,
I'm thinking of taking my Winter vacation through China. (dream locations: beijing, xian, chengdu, lhasa, giulin, shanghai) Anyways, here's my question - how cold is it really? I've googled it and -10'C doesn't sound that bad to me (having obviously grown up in the prairies), but you never know how the cold will feel until you're there. I certainly find Korea to be the never-ending land of cold these days and it's still above zero....
So - anyone done any of these locations in the winter? How bad was it? Still pleasant to walk around an explore?
Cambodia in the summer - Beijing in the winter = dumb vacation choices |

| beijing can get really cold in january. not only does it get very cold outside though, it is also windy. the wind is the worst. some days it would be ok to bundle up and walk around exploring, but others it will be miserable unless you dont mind the cold. dont let the weather stop you from going to beijing. its one of the best cities in the world. |

| South China for sure in the winter time. Save Beijing for Summer as well as Xian. |

| I went to Xian over Christmas a few years ago, and it wasn't that bad- It's comparable to what I grew up with in Eastern Canada |

I was in Xian in February a couple years ago and it was cold, but one nice thing was that it snowed a lot, something hadn't seen since coming to Asia. However, something that you might keep in mind is that the unexpectedly-heavy snow cancelled and delayed trains, planes, and buses out of Xian.
Oh, and in Xian beware of pickpockets. They got me, too. |
