First off, I should explain that I'm really pissed at my recruiter right now, so I apologize if what I say sounds ridiculous etc.

Basically, my bf and I are moving to South Korea, with jobs in two different schools. We were told we would share one apartment, and get a housing allowance for the other. We've double and triple checked this. The night before we leave (i.e. tonight) they call us and tell us we've got two apartments. Sounds luxurious, but we want ONE place to share, with the extra money to pay for the extra's we'll need, like a double bed for starters (I'm assuming they'll be furnished with singles).

We keep getting screwed, and we're practically on the flight over there now so there isn't much we can do. What I would LIKE to do if they don't fix this is sublet. I've read other posts about how it's illegal but my name isn't on any lease. I realize how this sounds, but like I said, super pissed and just wanting to fix this.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

well they most likely weren't gonna give you a bigger apt either way so...

idk how it works with hagwons, but if you're at a public school one of you should just tell your head teacher that you'll take the housing allowance instead of the apartment and that should be the end of it, really not taht big of a deal which is prob why the recruiter didn't bother handling it for you.

Don't tell your head teacher why you want to do it, just mention you will.
If they get wind that you will live with the bf, they will reject it/tell each other and cause problems.
Here mum's the word. Let your handler know as little as possible.

You realize you're coming into a culture where girlfriends don't live with their boyfriends, right?

Considering this fact, you sure have a lot of entitlement.

Yeah, expecting what you were promised is clearly irrational cultural chauvinism.

As for keeping it from people, I've always been 100% open about it and the people around me have been accepting and accommodating. After living for two years in a large 1 bedroom place with my girlfriend, paid for 50/50 by our schools, we have decided we like the look of the new Prugio around the block. Girlfriend mentioned it to her school, they say they'ed be happy to move us. Perhaps if it was a boyfriend instead things might have been a little more awkward...
Your recruiter probably made a note to tell the schools or district that you wanted shared accommodation and then forgot to act on it. Tell your school the situation, there's a good chance they'll be cool about it.
