Is this a new low for the Korea Times?

Weekly World News? Shocked ... Laughing

It takes quite a high level of ignorance to mistake that rag for news.

I guess the Korea Times is living up to its claim that journalism is not their concern.

I have finally decided that the Korea Times is a rumor rag, similar to the National Inquirer and the Weekly News, if not the New York Post.

Anyone who reads this newspaper and takes whats written in it seriously are freakin' morons in my book.

I can't believe that my first thought upon reading that "article" was, "how would they catch the flu without any mouths or noses?"

Interesting point. Any specific reasons for your conclusion?

I mostly avoid it these days. The articles are too short and superficial. But when I read it more closely I noticed they did not seek out people with expertice to respond to criticism made by someone. If people made some wild accusation, they would just print it. This is not good journalism. Heck, just printing allegations without support isn't journalism at ll. I'm thinking of the Mad Cow nonsense. KT did not once write an article that complied with the rules of fail journalism in America.

I'm not sure what this incident says, on a larger scale, but it does say it has ignorant/stupid copy editors, on up, to let something like that get through.

These days, there is no excuse. You can go on google news and see if there other other publications with the story. You can google Weekly World News and find this is entirely what they do for a living. That's part of an editor's job.

I bet the folks at the Weekly World News are having a laugh. I wonder if they have a blackboard with a tally sheep of suckers, or some other fitting tradition.

Hmmm, maybe we should start a newspaper,, "The Weekly World of Korea News"

First article: Kimchi cures cancer. Four out of Five Doctors recommend kimchi for patients who have breast cancer. It works, but they have to have extra hot kimchi inside their bras 23 hours a day. Would the KT pick it up?

Here's what we do: we send it the the Weekly Wrld News, they polish it up with fake PhDs, the KT sees the article and runs it. Next thing, women all over the world will be wearing kimch bras.

First published by the weekly world news more than a month ago. Picked up by a couple of blogs of the Kentucker4 world. Which were skeptical.

Amusing comment posted on the Weekly World News:

Dear Erik Van Datiken,

This is the Rwanda News Agency in Kigali.

Can we have details on this story because it looks like its a hoax!!

I think its funny that a national Korean newspaper picked up the story, but the Rwandans didn't haha.

I can't believe this was posted by any paper that even attempts to think of itself as a real news agency.

Because you know for a fact that no copy editor raised objections to the story and got overridden?

Sometimes writers do their best to get all the facts, and unfortunately fraudulent stories still get into the papers. This may be the funniest example, but it's not the first and won't be the last. It's very easy for writers to be victimized by con artists despite their best efforts. And copy editors don't always have the final say in what goes into the newspaper.

Love it. Come on, KT! Print an article from the Onion. I know you can do it! Make a total ass of yourselves like you so richly deserve, one week after telling foreign teachers they don't understand your high journalistic mission.

Just don't blame the copy editors. They probably didn't even see the story until it was to late to axe it.
