This is a good article

http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2009/11/18/2009111800451.html

Quote:
"Pyongyang had built at least 800 bunkers including an unknown number of decoys by 2007 to prepare for a possible invasion of South Korea," the ex-colonel claimed. "Each bunker contains military equipment that can fully arm 1,500 to 2,000 soldiers."

Quote:
Construction began in 2004, the second year of the Roh Moo-hyun administration, which continued the so-called Sunshine Policy of its predecessor.

Quote:
"If a soldier carried all his military equipment, which weighs 32 kg, and came to the DMZ in full gear, he would already be exhausted before reaching the South," the defector said. "So they built bunkers at the DMZ and put all their operations equipment there. In the bunkers, there are South Korean military uniforms and name tags, so that they can disguise themselves as South Korean troops. Also reserved are... 60-mm mortar shells, condensed high explosives, and all sorts of ammunition."

I seemed to have read about this 1 or 2 months ago.

I think the South needs to change their military uniforms - so the north soldiers can't dress up like Southerners - or the south needs something else (new) on their uniform - to identify themselves as real ROK soldiers (not disguised North Koreans).

That wouldn't have worked out so well for them.

How real is the idea of the North trying to invade the South? Or the chances of the North doing anything at all violent towards the South?

It would be suicidal. The Norks know that their first human wave into the south might be initially successful, but they also know that, just as soon as they could get there, US battle groups would Tomahawk the north into dust.

North Korea is all piss and wind.

Back when the North's submarine grounded a dozen+ years ago, the South's military had arm bands that were changed regularly; if a soldier didn't have the correct arm band...

When I lived in Paju, there were (& still are) many checkpoints where the road funnelled into a narrow overpass, that could be quickly dynamited, to prevent tanks rolling south.

I agree with others. It's all bluster & no substance by the Norks. ie more bark than bite.

Al countries have invasion plans for each other, especially ones like NK and SK.

I'm even skeptical of NKs first wave- they couldn't send too many people through the tunnels- seismic detectors would pick it up. Any preperations for a mass ground invasion would be picked up by satellite beforehand, giving the South plenty of time to prepare. An artillery bombardment without ground invasion is pointless, not to mention the indecisiveness of bombardments, and a nuclear attack is just insane and would result in their most assured annihilation.

The St. Gottard road tunnel incident comes to mind. Which makes me think a tunnel invasion would be futile. It would be extremely easy to ignite one of those tunnels, taking out thousands in minutes.

Maybe the first wave is to be accomplished by the 5th column in South Korea.

You mean the 10s of thousands of South Koreans who suddenly chuck away their Louis Vuitton bags and put on NK regalia, grab the thousands of guns lying around here and take out a tank with their .38?

Please enlighten me as to the logistics and planning of such a move.

Meh so they had a plan. Big wup. We have a plan to invade them and turn Pyongyang in to a parking lot if they attack us. I'm sure they'll get far with their masses of infantry walking on foot.

Once they see a McDonald's it's all over for the North. Unfortunately, I think all the towns north of Seoul don't have a McDonald's.
