Time to update! PSP is now on firmware 6.01 and the most recent games have been running on 5.5 though there is no real hack for those yet.

Put a text file in the PSP/Games folder. Any text file. Make you own. It doesn't matter.

Newest Sony FW is 601

You have to upgrade to GEN B. You can play any new game you want.

http://www.psp-hacks.com/2009/07/02/psp-custom-firmware-550-gen-b-released/

That will give you 5.5 FW, so you can play the new games like Grand Turismo and Motostorm etc as well as the older games. Install Gen-A then Gen-B.

new isos must have a file decripted with

YOu don't need to update the firmwar. You just need to put a text file in the game directory.

Yes, if you don't want to play the latest games you don't need to update.

The gen -A/B files I linked are in the right folder structure already. basically, they go in the PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder, and run from the same place on the PSP as your ISO files do (the game menu) If you are not confident, get someone else to do it. sorry can't help with a guide link at the mo.
