Hi everybody,

I know there are Christmas activities on the net, but I trust you all Shocked

Ok, I trust some of you. Nevertheless, this is my favorite ESL website. Sometimes we do give each other good ideas!

What are some good Christmas activities for low level public MS classes?

I've seen some good activities for intermediate students using the Mr. Grinch song. In the activity I've seen, you give kids a lyrics sheet with words missing, the kids listen closely and write the words. Then, they try to define the words they aren't sure about. I think this would work for 10% of my students.

Would it be good to... hmm... pre-teach 10 vocab words relating to Christmas and Mr. Grinch, show them a PPT show based on Mr. Grinch (but with simplified language, so they understand the story), and then show them the movie for fun?

Hmm how can I make it more student centered...?

Any ideas?

I'VE GOT IT

and it's simple and I hope, student-centered enough for Xmas funtime...

The kids will make their own How the Grinch Stole Xmas book, based on the classic TV cartoon.

I'll prepare a worksheet with maybe 6 comic-strip style windows and a line below each window.

I will select 6 pivotal plot scenes. I'll prepare the kids for the scene (basically tell them what will happen before it shows). Then, after it happens I'll pause the video, ask what happened, and they can write the sentence and draw the scene. Of course, I have a canned sentence ready for them to copy. And, they'll draw the scene. Then I'll continue the video.

The video's 25 mins, so that's a class (with the pausing and drawing).

here's the video: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/christmas/videos/12925/title/how-grinch-stole-christmas

Have fun!
