So I just got back to Korea from a trip home to the States for the holidays, and I was surprised at the variety of flatscreen TVs available there versus here in Korea. I noticed that there was a much greater selection of brands, and a much greater variety in prices for flatscreens, some several hundred bucks cheaper than what I've seen a large Korean-brand flatscreen for here.
So has anyone out there seen any other brands of large flatscreens available here? I haven't, but maybe I just haven't been looking in the right places. |

Sony ones are available in any large store.
Samsung and LG are the two largest producers of flat screen TVs in the world though, so it's not overly surprising that they dominate here.
I suppose it'd be nice to see some cheaper Taiwanese stuff here as an option. You see it with computer monitors.. less so with TVs. Maybe they're not competitive after import duties, shipping costs and the distributors cut are paid. |

You should understand that there aren't many companies in the world that make LCD displays. Just because the sets you saw weren't LG, Samsung, or Daewoo branded doesn't mean they weren't manufactured by one of the biggies out here. |

You can find Sharp, Sony and Panasonics if you're willing to pay the high prices for them. |

Daewoo Electronics uses Samsung tech for its flat screens at a cheaper price.
I wouldn't risk getting a no-name brand, especially if you want your big screen to last. |

So would a Daewoo flatscreen be worth it then? I mean, are they good enough and still a good bit cheaper?
I concur with the speculation as to import duties, shipping, and distribution costs, but I was wondering if anyone could confirm this or knew of any generic brands that performed well at a lower price. |

I wouldn't splurge too much on a Daewoo, and well, if you're going to spend more than a million won on a flat screen, pay the extra for a brand name. |

Yeah, actually that's what I'm trying to avoid - paying over a million for a flatscreen. Maybe it's just not possible. |

Blackjack, it looked like you were posting some good info there, but all of those links you put up go to a search feature for GMarket with empty results. Can you post again? |
