..if you live in a single room apartment? My old D-Link router is giving me grief, so I want to replace/upgrade it.
I'm not sure whether to just buy a better B/G router, or an N router.

I have an N router, and I've had G routers.

The advantages of an N router are that they can transmit a stronger signal a bit further in N mode (less interference at that frequency, too). If you have a home network, you can enjoy higher data transfer rates between computers, but they all must be N. With some routers, running an N signal and a G signal will mean all signals in and out will default to the slower G signal for all parties connected to the router.

For basic surfing, there isn't a difference in speed. For throughput of larger data streams, you can notice a difference.

Also, the N routers tend to be made with faster internal components, which can mean a slight speed increase.

I always try to get routers with MIMO technology (faster, better reception).

You may not need to make the decision, at least in Korea. Nearly all of the online ones will be N class now. Your choice will be whether you want a cheapie or a good one, I think.

I tried an American model and ended up sending it back and getting a local brand. It was just less hassle than fighting city hall with my apartment's internet service.

I've had OK luck with my Belkin Wireless N router. It's in English, too. Just be sure to turn off the Belkin firewall. This will not leave you totally unprotected. It's just too strong for a lot of stuff out there (used to block my MSN chat).

My N router is a piece of crap. Doesn't work at all with my Macbook. The signal is always on the fritz maxing out then dieing completely in cycles of only 10 to 15 seconds. Also, I've got a roommate with a wireless G card on her computer and a PS3 with a G card so if either of those are on the N speed is nullified. Either hardwire or just get G.
