I'm planning on visiting Hong Kong during the upcoming New Year this weekend and then spending a few days in Taiwan.

Does anyone have any advice?

I spent a few hours in Hong Kong on the way back to Seoul a few weeks ago and I'm not sure if I need more than 3-4 days to experience the island.

In the same note, while Tawain is bigger than Hong Kong, I'm not sure how much time I should budget for that country either as I'll probably spend most of my visit in Taipei.

Any advice?

1. http://pam.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong

2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan

I've only been to Hong Kong and it's expensive! Not much more than Seoul though.

We stayed in the Alisan guesthouse (google it) for about $60 a night and were happy with it and the location.... it was about as inexpensive as you can get without staying in a questionable area.

The pocket sized Hong kong encounter book was invaluable for our 3 day HK trip... you can probably get it by ordering it from What the book. It has everything - maps, iteniraries, restaurants, etc.
