Will my card work outside of korea? especially in Vietnam?

I've used an american debit card with a VISA/plus logo all over the world, can I do the same with my korean card?

anyone know first hand? I'd prefer not to get travelers checks.

I doubt it.
But why don't you ask the bank?
It's not like they'd lie to you.
Would they? Sad

if you have the KEB card with the visa on it, and you have filled out the paperwork at the bank for foreign transactions it should work at the ATM's but you cannot use it as a check card outside of Korea

+1

Do you have the "GLOBAL" card? You know, that cool looking purple one.

I would definitely have some kind of back up cash for your first trip abroad with that card. I went to Taiwan this summer with a KEB Global card that they assured me I could use in other countries. I tried it at several different bank machines (each displaying the appropriate logo) and none of them worked.
When I was back in Korea I went to KEB to see what was going on, and they made me fill out some more paperwork and gave me a new card. I'm heading to Hong Kong on Friday and will find out for sure whether or not it works.
I guess my point is that no one on here can tell you whether or not it will work - the only way you will know is from trying it yourself. That's why I recommend you have some kind of alternative as backup.

Always good to have cash as a backup.

But, I have a KEB international debit card (with visa plus on the back), and it's worked in every foreign country I've been to, most recently last week: China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Japan, and the US.

Sometimes, the VISA logo is just a front to make the card seem more important and useful than it is. Always have cash as a backup.

Ah, I've only tried it for cash at ATMs.

I have the purple KEB global card. It worked as an ATM card, but not point of purchase in China. I think they are set up for ATM only, assuming the ATM itself has the right "logos" on it. Will try in Australia in 2 weeks and Vietnam in 6. But, based on Smee's post, I think I am good to go in Vietnam. Thanks Smee!

if you read the back of your card, it tells you what you just said. good for foreign atms, but not purchases.
