|
|
Are there many places in Korea that will hire for 6 months?
I have a degree, but no teaching qualifications.
Do I have a chance to get a job for 6 months? I don't mind if I'd have to cover my own airfare or something, as long as I was able to live comfortably and make a small amount. Saving money isn't my #1 priority, as long as I'm having fun and not burning a hole in my bank account.
What are the repercussions of accepting a 1-year contract and leaving half way through it? |

You cannot get an E-2 visa for a 6 month contract.
So getting the job will depend on the flexibility of your employer regarding law.
The repercussions will probably be thrown onto the next teacher, who wuill have to pay for the costs you incur by dropping the ball. |

How? Who was your recruiter? I'd be interested in this. |

Wrong.
The TALK program hires people for 6 month contracts. The pay is a bit less but you teach less. I think it is ideal for people who want to test the waters.

If you are on a 6-month contract, yes you can apply for extension for 6 more months (total one year experience).
If you are on a 1 year contract, you have an opportunity to apply for extension.
Consult with your POE regarding this.
The TaLK program can now be experienced for 2 years maximum. |

I didnt go through a recruiter, i found the job myself. But yeah im on a 6month visa-well actually it was 5...the pay is alittle low, im only on 2.1 (had to take a 500,00w pay cut) but it served my purposes perfectly and they pay low as they fill a niche market.
My co-workers are on 3 month visas (although maybe diff as one transferred from another school, and the other (also on 3months) had completed a 12 month contract with another school. |

I got a 6 month contract through a recruiter a few years back.
I didn't get a bonus, but all the other conditions were the same.
They even flew me to Fukuoka instead of making me take the ferry like a mere peasant
But given the oversupply of Americans now, I'd say you're unlikely to find a 6 month position.
(Unless you are a blonde, sexy North American woman with a masocistic fetish for menial tasks).
You could take a 12 month contract and you could break it half way through, but that would make you a selfish jerk.
Your co-teachers would have to bear your burden until a replacement is found, and it would likely drive your nutty, distrustful manager even nuttier and more distrustful.
Also, you're likely to be pressured to pay back your flight ticket and/or recruiter fee.
So, set a good example, and stick to the conditions of your contract, or don't sign it. |
