This news seems to be 6 months old, but for some reason, I didn't hear anything about it.

I hate to sound dense... but is it, you know .. true? Do they not check anymore as to visa status when you enroll in school?

I ask this because I work in a company and had to jump through a lot of hoops to get my study permission, which, a mere 5 months after I did, they decided to scrap. My renewal is coming up and I was wondering if anyone has registered to study something other than Korean (for which you never needed permission) within the last 6 months and would like to share their experiences?

If you weren't aware of this, it's potentially huge, especially for the University lecturers who work under 15 hours a week... you can totally fit a full-time study schedule in there as well and really make the most of your time here.

I study a European language once a week in a language school. I have an E-2 visa.

I never even considered that study would be a visa issue.

Yes, the rule changed in June or July this year. I'm on an E-2 doing my masters at a University in Seoul and did not need to get permission from my employer or immigration. Nothing needs to be added to you visa.

It seemed logical to do since as a student you are not making any extra money, and you are putting money into the system.

That's pretty good for Canadians. They get 6 months on their passport which is enough to cover a semester of school at a time. They could easily go to a school here without the need for a student visa.
