Anyone out there have an HP that died on them and happened to pick one of these up? My friends laptop died, so I grabbed this kit that lets you plug in any SATA/IDE device (hard drives and dvd/cd players) and turn them into a USB. worked great on my spare laptop hard drive, unfortunately, it doesn't work on an HP, because for some unholy reason HP uses custom hard drive connectors which don't remotely resemble SATA or IDE. Yet the hard drive has a nice sticker on it identifying the various parts of the non-existent SATA connector..

looking online these things seems to be around $50 USD new, so I thought I'd check if anyone had one, or had seen them or a cheaper alternative. the laptop basically died a slow death a couple weeks back, and its out of warranty. I expect the motherboard or something on it just gave up the ghost and it won't even start now, no post, just the lights come on for a sec, it chugs and tries to "restart"

so for the price of repairing that it'll be a new laptop, but there are things that need to be recovered from this hard drive.
