Hello All,

I am currently working in Shanghai, China. Chinese New Year is mid-February (a couple months away!!!) and I wanted to take a trip to Korea. I figure it will be cold and possibly snowing there around that time, BUT I plan to parking myself during most of the days in a cafe and working on my master's thesis. When I am not working on my thesis I want to do a few things, see a few things and not make it a complete work trip. Any suggestions? I was initially planning on going to Seoul and I wanted to stay around the Hongdae area but I'm open to other ideas!

Thanks for any tips!

I only know about shopping, so here are my preferences. If you love shopping for clothes and shoes and stuff, definitely stop by the Myeongdong area in Seoul. For shopping for electronics, I recommend Yongsan in Seoul, there is the i'Park mall there which is very legit (especially for electronics) and you can haggle. Very Happy

I suck at giving advice. Crying or Very sad

hongdae in seoul is nice; it's a university area so there are plenty of cafes and restaurants. plus, if you're into nightlife, that's probably the best place in seoul for it.

but why are you coming to korea?? it sounds like you're more interested in working on your thesis, so why don't you try thailand? it'll be cheap, warm, and in your free time you can always go to the beach!

don't listen to the fools on this board.

you may want to stay in downtown area such as myong-dong, insa-dong, jong-ro, shinchon or hongdae where you can find many decent/affordable restaurants, bars, coffe shops, bakeries, book stores, public libraries, universities, and tons of other interesting places. then you can easily make a day trip to chunchon, gangwha-do (island), nam-ee-sum, suwon, etc..
