|
|
So, long story short, a different misdeamoner (that I tottaly forgot about ) popped up on my current state's CBC. However, I am going to spend a lot of time in a different state (about a month) before I plan on going abroad.
Would it be wise to get a CBC from the state I'll be staying in temporarily? Under state law I would count as a resident -- all I got to do is register to vote to get a new driver's license. Plus, all of my stuff will be there and it will be my US mailing address.
In case you're wondering what the crime was: It was Halloween, I was drinking a beer on the sidewalk while wearing a pink bunny suit. The cop cited me for consuming in public and the judge dismissed it in court. However, the citation still appears on the record. I'll admit it. Not. Too. Bright. |

Hey I am definitely not an expert, I haven't even gotten my job yet, but I am 99.9% sure you can get a cbc through a different state. The original recruitment company I was going through actually ordered my Colorado CBC for me, and at the time I lived in Michigan. I do not think it is even necessary to get a drivers license etc in the new state. Plus I have read a few other post with people with the same issue. |

Look into having it expunged. That's the only possibility I can think of at the moment. |

I know a person who had similar issues with DUI in his own state so he went to another state and got a check done.
This state office very kindly put on the document words to the affect of
" has no criminal record in *** state but does have a record noted in *** state"
He was not able to get around the situation. |

Do record checks for public schools need to be sealed, or would we be allowed to open them to read what they say? I was charged with a very similar offense to the OP (no bunny suit though) about five years ago and was wondering if it would even show up. I sure hope not! |

Just get a copy for yourself first. Cost you a few extra bucks. Some states can do a check online, such as Kansas, for 20. |

That's what I was initially planning. I guess my thought, though, was that I could save $20 and the trouble of getting fingerprinted twice (one card per record request in my state for some reason) if they didn't care if the records were opened. |

You can get a CBC from any state, resident or nonresident. Some states don't do "state only" check, they only do full DOJ (Department of Justice) national checks that cover everything. |

No, they do not need to be sealed. You will need to open the envelope to get the apostille (the background check should be notarized when you get it). Therefore, you will be able to read it. |
